Hcg Phase 3 Explained

I have been getting a lot of questions about what to eat on phase 3 of the hCG diet. Phase 3 is the maintenance phase of the hCG Protocol. It consists of two three weeks periods to help you keep the weight off and reset your hypothalamus gland. You start phase 3 after you have been off the HCG diet drops for 72 hours. At this point, you should start by recording your weight. The goal to make this work is to stay within two pounds of your last weight on the last day of Phase 2. That can be two pounds over or two pounds under. Those people who do not do Hcg diet protocol phase 3 will regain the weight they have just lost and will have to start all over again in most cases. If you lose more than two pounds you will need to increase your calorie take, if you gain more than two pounds, then do a apple day or steak only day*. It is very important to stay in the range.

First Three Week Peroid of Hcg Phase 3

During this period you will increase your daily calorie intake from 500 a day to 1500 – 2000 a day. This is a no sugar or carb part of the Hcg diet. You can eat what you want, and when you want, just avoid sugar and starches. Make sure you still weight yourself every morning so you can adjust if you need to.

Second Three Weeks of HCG Phase 3

Now that you have been eating more foods and your body has adjusted to them, you can start by very gradually add starches and sugars  back into your life. A little warning here, do this in small quantities and let your body adjust to your new eating style. Always continue to do your morning weighing and adjust your calories intake if you get out of range.

Suppose I Still Want To Lose More Weight?

After you complete the six weeks of hCG Maintenance, then you can start another round starting with the gorge days. You will be doing the diet all over again. Remember, you can also stay on the diet anywhere from 21 to 42 days before starting phase 3.

*HCG Steak Day

If you don’t know what the steak day is, it will help you lose 2 pounds real fast. You have to skip breakfast and lunch, but have plenty to drink, then in the evening have a Hugh steak for dinner along with an apple or tomato.  That’s it. Have fun with the hCG diet!

I finished my HCG drops on the 29th of November 2010, waited 72 hours and started to increase my calories to 1200. Today is December 8th. I have not lost a pound. Also, I am finding it hard to increase my calories. I want to do another round of HCG, I have 100 pounds to lose. Am I doing ok. I have lost 30 pounds so far.

Once you go off the drops and start phase 3, you do not want to lose anymore weight or gain more than 2 pounds, once you have completed phase 3 of the hCG diet for six weeks, then you can start all over again and do phase 2 over.

I finished recently phase 2 from the diet and am currently in phase 3. I have not been eating as much as supposed to, haven’t been eating fat as well but have though been eating a bit of starch during the day. Will that affect me? I did not have much to weight to lose, I just wanted to do it to lose a bit… Will I gain the weight back for eating carbs?

I am really worried after reading your review of phase 3 and breaking the rules.

Sorry to confuse you, during hCG phase 3 there is still no fat, you can mixed vegetables again, you can eat a few carbs here and there, but be careful. The real thing to be concerned about is your daily weight. Make sure that you do not gain more than two pounds during this whole phase 3, If you do, this is telling you NOT to eat as many carbs as you are and that you need to cut down on them. As long as you are in the two pound range, you are doing great. If you exceed, cut back and get back to that range again as quickly as possible. We want the hypothalamus gland to reset your body weight to the new weight you went down too. You must be consistent during this phase or it will not work. For most people, they will be able to eat 1500 to 2000 calories a day during this phase 3. This is a lot better than the more restrictive 500 calories a day. So enjoy this relief but don’t go overboard.

When you enter phase 3 is it necessary to stay on maintenance 3 weeks or 6 weeks before you start another round. I have read differences everywhere. Thanks.

    • admin February 14, 2011 at 10:17 am #

It’s OK to start another round after the 3 weeks of Phase 3. I think the 4th, 5th and 6th weeks of continued maintenance of Phase 3 are when carbs and sugars are slowly reintroduced into a person’s diet. You probably would want to skip the carbs and sugars if you’re going for another round anyways.

I am about to start in about 5 days phase 3 and I’m worried about the foods I can eat. How much carb can I eat ? or is absolutely no carb at all? for example can I eat hummus? I would really appreciate a list of foods in general that I can eat! What fruits are the best? or is it that I can’t eat any?
    Sincerely, Gloria

For people who gain all their weight back, they usually failed at this part of the diet. It is vital that you stay on this for three weeks or you will return to the prior weight you were before the diet. We have to retrain your body to accept and maintain this new weight by being constant for 3 weeks. Remember you can eat anything on this stage except sugar and starches. The Weight Loss Cure Guide has a big list of what foods contain sugar and starch and those that are safe to eat. I recommend that everyone obtain a copy of the book and read it first.

What happens if I gain water weight during phase 3 due to my period? Do I still do the steak day?

    • admin March 3, 2011 at 9:25 am #

Weight gain from water retention is normal, and will return to normal as your cycle ends. No need for a “Steak Day”.

I am 1 1/2 weeks into R2P3. With the first round I had no problems with my weight stabilizing. This timme I am going up and down every day. I am in perimenopause and have been having very irregular periods, alot of bloating and water retention issues. I don’t know if this is playing a factor tghis time or not. I have also increased my exercise to three times a week at the gym. Could this be a cause as well?? I’m just not sure what to do? With the steak days I have only lost about 1 lb each time.

I am about to start phase three. I understand no sugar or starch, but am I allowed to eat the same fruit I have been eating? Fruit has sugar…What are the fruit rules. Also, can I use butter/olive oil for cooking? Aren’t the grisinni sticks considered starch? Am I still allowed to eat them? Thanks for any advise.

can you put onion and radish in the green salad?

    • admin April 16, 2011 at 4:05 pm #

You’re really not supposed to do that, but I have heard of other dieters bending the rules a bit and still having great success.

I know you can do the 500 calorie diet for up to 42 days. Does this include the 3 days of not taking the hcg while remaining on the 500 calories or do you 42 days while taking hcg and then 3 days without the hcg?

    • admin May 12, 2011 at 9:18 am #

The 42 days are days of hCG usage. You remain on the 500 cal diet 3 days beyond the time you stop taking the drops, so a total of 45 days of the 500 cal diet.

  14. Audrey October 25, 2011 at 8:49 pm #

What is the harm in going from the 500 calorie phase straight into the 1500 calorie phase without stopping the drops for 3 days prior to the change?

I have read TONs on the HCG diet and still need an answer for one thing? I keep hearing you cant go above or BELOW 2 pounds during phase three. Why cant I continue to lose weight in phase three if I want to? I am pretty slim already and wanted to lose 10-15 pounds (15 would be super lean). But bc of that I predict that I will only lose 10 pounds TOTAL by the end of phase 2. I think I may want to lose an additional 3-5 after that and it doesn’t make sense for me to do another round. So why cant I do phase 3 diet correctly and exercise 4-5 days per week if I want to lose a little more? I don’t want to mess up so any explanation would be appreciated! thx!

    • hcgsource November 8, 2011 at 7:27 am #

Phase 3 is the part of the diet that we try to keep everything within two pounds either up or down from your final weigh in on the last day you took the hcg drops. This six week period is where we teach your body a new weight set point, it we can hold the weight their steady, our body will try to keep that new weight. Normally, if we are a little bit off, the body will try to adjust to the new weight. This doesn’t mean that we can eat anything we want, we still need to eat healthy and exercise. ( No exercising during phase 2, walking OK). After this six weeks, we need to eat the right amount of calories for our body type.

If you still have more weight to lose, you can restart the diet over again after the six week period. Also, Julia, you don’t have to start phase 3 until you have done phase 2 for 21 to 42 days. If you try to lose weight during phase 3, your body will not establish the new set point and you will gain it back as soon as you stop the diet, your body will try to restore the old weight instead. Don’t skip phase 3.

This time last night was my last . Do I take the weight after the 72 hours as the base weight I need to stay within 2 pounds of? Or is what I weighed this morning the base weight I need to be staying within 2 pounds of?

    • hcgsource December 22, 2011 at 9:27 am #

Once you stop taking HCG drops, you will need to stay on the 500 calorie diet for three days, After the three days the HCG will have exited your body. For the following three week period, you are to avoid eating sugar or starches. You will eat around a 2000 calorie diet, more if you work out or play sports hard. The object is to stay within 2 pounds above or below the last weight you recorded while still taking HCG.

I ended had my last dose of HCG on the day my period my started. I am not sure what weight I should use as my set point. I lost about .8lb from the last does of HCG to the following day (still on VLCD) then it went back to the weight from the last dose, which was also the first day of my TOM. What do I consider my set weight?
